When Covid hit all tests were cancelled, but the challenge now is rebooking one. Every two weeks the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency releases new slots for tests. As he is working, I offered. I've been trying for months to schedule a driving test, but whenever I check for available dates, the website just tells me there aren't any dates available. Once in a blue moon a random date for 4-5 months out will pop up, and if I sit at a computer all day refreshing and clicking through all the menus over and over again, sometimes a single. We check for driving test cancellations nationwide, every 20 seconds. That’s over 3000 searches per day. All cancelled slots will be given to those working in essential services or essential retail who are waiting on a test date. The RSA said there are 60,000 people waiting for a driving test. This is achieved by making use of driving test cancellation slots. Road test appointments at Driver Examination Centres* are available within 42 days of the date requested.

Ontario's driver examination services are delivered at DriveTest Centres, operated by Serco DES Inc. (Serco), on behalf of the Ministry of Transportation.
Information can be obtained at any of the 55 full-time DriveTest Centres and 39 part-time Travel Point locations province-wide. For the list of locations and hours of service visit DriveTest Centre List and Hours.

Any applicant who requests a road test appointment will be able to obtain an appointment within 42 days of their request at the location requested (*excludes some part-time travel points).
Road test appointments can be booked by internet, phone or in-person at any DriveTest Centre.

To access the road test appointment Internet booking visit DriveTest Book a Road Test. DriveTest does not charge any additional service fees for booking road tests. Applicants using third party booking services should be aware they may be charged additional fees to book a road test. No third party providing booking services is affiliated with DriveTest or the ministry.

All applicants are required to pay the fees in advance of their road test appointment. You may pre-pay your road test fee using a credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express) if you are booking an appointment over the phone or the Internet.

If booking in-person at a DriveTest Centre, you can pay by cash, debit card, credit card, certified cheque, bank draft or money order made payable to “DriveTest Centre”, or traveller's cheque (Canadian or American).

This short blog is going to tell you what options are available to you to get a driving test date that is perfectly aligned to your needs. This is achieved by making use of driving test cancellation slots. Every day there are literally thousands of cancellations going through for one reason or another on previously booked driving tests. When the cancellation is processed, that slot is then available to be used. Getting to know when these driving test cancellation slots crop up is key.
You have 3 options. The first 2 options involve connecting up with the booking service, you can do it on line or on the phone using this link Going on line has the advantage of you being able to temporarily 'reserve' a slot that crops up for 15 mins, which is long enough to check with your Driving Instructor if s/he can make that new time/date. Persevere, persevere, persevere.
The 3rd option is to use a company that does nothing else but this; and there are many of them on the market. You make the original test booking, and then provide them with the details of that booking and the date that you would actually prefer, and they get on and find you one. The benefit to you is that you do not have to spend the time on the phone or on line. The downside to you, is that if they find a cancellation slot, it could come through at any time, and who is to say that you even notice it come through on your mobile? You may be busy. You may not be able to instantly get through to your busy driving instructor.
So there you have it. The first 2 options are free, but will take some patience, persistence and ultimately time to get the result you want. The third option comes with a fee, but you have no control when they contact you.
